FRISCO, Texas – McNeese Cowgirl track and field student-athletes
Jeny Barcenas and
Morgan Talley swept this week's Southland Conference Athlete of the Week awards, Barcenas voted as the women's track athlete of the week while Talley was named the field athlete of the week.
Talley captures her second weekly award on the outdoor season while Barcenas earned her first as the Cowgirls swept the awards for the second time this season. At least one Cowgirl has earned a weekly honor six times out of seven weeks.
A graduate student from Rockwall, Texas, Talley posted two, top three finishes at the ULM Warhawk Classic over the weekend. She placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 42-2.25 and was third in the long jump at 19-3.5.
Talley is currently ranked No. 1 in the conference in the triple jump and is seventh in the NCAA South Central Region. She is also ranked first in the league in the heptathlon, third in the 100m hurdles and seventh in the long jump.
Barcenas clocked two personal records at ULM in both the 5000-meter run and the 400-meter hurdles. She placed first in the 5,000m with a time of 17:16.48 then ran a 1:07.70 in the hurdles.
A native of Bucarmanga, Columbia, the sophomore is ranked in the top 10 in the league in four different events – No. 1 in the steeplechase, No. 2 in the 5000m, No. 8 in the 1500m and No. 9 in the 400 hurdles.
