LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's tennis improved to 5-1 on the season with its 6-1 win Sunday over Alcorn in a match that was previously scheduled to be played in Vicksburg, Miss. but was moved to Lake Charles due to weather.
 
McNeese (5-1) opened the match by winning all three doubles matches to win the doubles point to take a 10-1 lead.
 
The Cowgirls went on to win three straight singles matches to clinch the win with Tiana Fox defeating Aanya Roa 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6, Anastasija Adeikyte defeated Natalija Nikolic 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 and Arina Gamretkaia defeated Nicole Kells at No. 1 6-3, 6-0.
 
The only match the Cowgirls dropped was at No. 4 singles before picking up the last two wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles.
 
McNeese will return to action this Saturday when the Cowgirls will meet Grambling in Ruston for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. The Cowgirls will remain in North Louisiana for an 11 a.m. match at UL-Monroe on Sunday, Feb. 11.
