SB: Cowgirls Come From Behind To Defeat San Diego State

BATON ROUGE—McNeese softball scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up a 5-4 come from behind win over San Diego State Friday afternoon on the first day of the LSU Purple & Gold Challenge.
 
McNeese (12-4) will continue tournament play Saturday with a 12 p.m. game against Illinois and a 7:30 p.m. game against #4/5 LSU.  The LSU game will stream on SECN+.
 
Freshman Alexis Dibbley's two out single through the left side scored Reese Reyna from third for the game wining run, extending the Cowgirls winning streak to seven games.
 
San Diego State (8-7) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run homerun by Katie Goldberg.  McNeese responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run homerun of its own coming from Rylie Bouvier tie the game at two apiece.
 
The Aztecs took advantage of a Cowgirl fielding error and later scored on a RBI double by Angie Yellen for the 3-2 lead.
 
San Diego State added another run in the fifth inning for the 4-2 lead on a sacrifice fly by Mac Barbara.
 
After going four scoreless innings, pinch hitter Jada Muñoz got things going for the Cowgirls in the seventh with a one out pinch hit single to left.  Pinch hitter Chloe Gomez drew a four pitch walk and Reyna loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch to bring the Cowgirls top of the order to the plate with one out.
 
Crislyne Moreno was 0-3 on the before picking up her first hit of the game, a two RBI double that scored both Muñoz and Reyna to tie the game at four.
 
After Corine Poncho flew out to center for the second out.  Reyna and Moreno both advanced to second and third on a wild pitch before Dibbley stepped to the plate and singled through the left side for the game winning hit that scored Reyna for the win.    
 
Seven Cowgirls picked up hits in the game with Bouvier picking up the only extra base hit. 
 
Shaelyn Sanders improved to 4-2 on the year with the complete game victory.  Sanders allowed four runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked one.
