LAFAYETTE—Louisiana-Lafayette took advantage of several walks and a hit-by-pitch in the third inning to score its runs in a 2-1 win over McNeese Wednesday night in a non-conference game.
 
The Cajuns scored both their runs on two, two out bases loaded to take the early lead.
 
The loss drops McNeese to 14-12 overall while the Cajuns improved to 15-12.  McNeese will head to Thibodaux this weekend to face Nicholls in its Southland Conference opening series.
 
Victoria Vasquez reached base on a walk and scored on walk by Sam Roe.  Maddie Hayden reached base when she was hit by a pitch then scored on a Sophie Piskos walk for the second ULL run of the game.
 
McNeese scored it run in the seventh inning Rylie Bouvier was hit by a pitch.  Rylee Eyster came into the game to pinch hit for Bouvier and later scored on a Cajun error.
 
The Cowgirls were held to one hit in the game, a two out single to right field from Crislyne Moreno in the third inning.  McNeese left eight runners stranded including the bases loaded in the seventh inning with one out. 
 
Shaelyn Sanders fell to 6-6 on the year with the complete game loss.  Sanders allowed two runs on four hits with three walks while Sam Landry improved to 7-5 on the year with the win.  Chloe Riassetto picked up her first save of the season in relief of Landry in the seventh inning.
