LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's tennis defeated No. 70 NJIT (New Jersey Institute of Technology) 6-1 Friday in a non-conference match that marks the programs first win over a ranked opponent.
 
With the win, McNeese improves to 15-1 on the year and extends its winning streak to 13 matches.  NJIT falls to 12-3 with the loss.
 
McNeese took control of the match early by winning the doubles point with straight set wins from the No. 1 doubles team of Arina Gamretkaia and Anastasija Adeikyte who improved to 15-1 on the year.  Tiana Fox and Aina Domingo-Bernabeu improved to 10-1 on the year with a 6-1 win at the No. 3 doubles.
 
The Cowgirls then cruised to five straight set singles victories that saw Adeikyte remain undefeated at 13-0 with her 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 2 singles.  Emma-Lou Pommiers improved to 13-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4.  Gamretkaia improved to 10-1 with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1.  Maria Wang Martinez picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 5 to improve to 6-1 and Aina Domingo-Bernabeu improved to 5-5 on the year with her 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2.
 
McNeese will return to action on Saturday, March 23 when they will host Southeastern in a Southland Conference match.
