NATCHITOCHES—McNeese softball continued to swing the hot bat and completed a series sweep over Northwestern State with a 7-1, 8-0 (5 inning) doubleheader win Friday afternoon.
McNeese (23-13, 8-1 SLC) combined for 21 hits on the day including seven extra base hits and two homeruns, one each by
Corine Poncho and
Alexis Dibbley.
Samantha Mundine was 4 for 6 at the plate and scored three runs, Poncho was 4 for 8 with two doubles and one homerun, missing hitting for the cycle by a triple.
Rylie Bouvier added to her 5 RBI's on Thursday with three more Friday to give her a total of eight for the series.
Dibbley improved to 2-0 on the season by picking up the win in the first game of the series, allowing only the one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts and four walks.
Sanders picked up the win in the final game of the series to improve to 11-6 overall. Sanders allowed one hit, struck out three and walked one in the shutout win.
In the first game, NW State took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning. McNeese scored four runs int the third that started with back-to-back homeruns by
Corine Poncho and
Alexis Dibbley. The other two runs came on a RBI single by
Rylie Bouvier and then
Mariana Torres was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to lead 4-1.
The Cowgirls scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seven innings for the 7-1 win.
In the series finale, the Cowgirls opened the game with a run in the first inning on a single by Mundine that scored Poncho. McNeese broke the game open with five runs in the third inning on four hits and a Lady Demon error. Sacrifice flies by Moreno and
Bella Perez accounted for two runs while
Reese Reyna and
Brilee Ford each knocked in a run with singles. The fifth run came on a fielder's choice RBI by Bouvier.
Crislyne Moreno produced the game winning run with a double down the left field line that scored Mundine. Mundine drew a walk and stole second to get into scoring position.
In the bottom of the fifth, Sanders struck out Camryn Ford and Kat Marshall for the first two outs then got Sophia Livers to ground out to end the game.
