COMMERCE, Texas—
Mariana Torres led McNeese softball at the plate, going 3 for 3 and scored three runs as the Cowgirls completed its Southland Conference series sweep over Texas A&M-Commerce Saturday with another run-rule win, 11-1 Saturday.
With the win McNeese improves to 29-15 overall and 14-1 in the SLC. The loss drops TAMUC to 7-39 overall and 0-18 in the SLC.
McNeese ended the day with 12 hits, five being extra base hits and three were homeruns. The Cowgirls also had 10 RBI without a strikeout on the day.
Bella Perez,
Crislyne Moreno, and
Corine Poncho all belted one homerun apiece.
Perez started the Cowgirl scoring in the second inning with a solo homerun, her second of the series and second of the season as well.
McNeese blew the game open in the third inning with five runs on four hits with four of the five runs coming off a grand slam by Moreno, her second homerun of the year.
Two more runs in the fourth on a Lion error and an
Alexis Dibbley ground-rule double gave the Cowgirls an 8-0 lead. TAMUC got on the board with a run in the bottom of the inning with a single by Tehya Pitts.
A three run, four hit fifth inning the Cowgirls to extend the lead to 11-1. Torres scored
Reese Reyna who tripled with one out then Poncho brought Torres home on her 15
th homerun of the season and second of the series for the final two Cowgirl runs of the game.
Shaeyln Sanders picked up her second win of the series to improve to 14-7 overall. Sanders allowed one run on six hits in 4.0 innings.
Ryann Schexnayder allowed one hit in 1.0 inning of relief.
McNeese will return home next Wednesday to host Sam Houston in a midweek game before hosting Houston Christian in a Southland Series next weekend.
