Shahada Wells, who helped guide McNeese to its most memorable and successful season as a Division I program, has been invited to participate at the 70
th Annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament April 17-20 in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Wells will be a member of the Portsmouth Sports Club, one of eight teams whose rosters includes some of the best players in college basketball from this past season.

Wells led McNeese to a 30-4 record this past season, earning Southland Conference Player and Newcomer of the Year honors while his Cowboys captured the league's regular season and tournament championships. McNeese earned a No. 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament, falling to Sweet 16 participant Gonzaga in the first round.

For the year, Wells was the only player in the NCAA to average at least 17 points (7.8), 4.5 rebounds (4.5), 4.5 assists (4.8), and 3.0 steals (3.0) per game.

He was a finalist for the Lute Olson and Lou Henson Player of the Year Awards, which he earned All-American honors from.

Launched in 1953, the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament has invited 64 senior college basketball players from across the nation to compete before professional scouts. Eight teams of eight players play a 12-game tournament over four days.

One of the pre-NBA Draft camps, some of the names played in the PIT include Scottie Pippen, John Stockton, Dennis Rodman, Jimmy Butler, and Ben Wallace, just to name a few.
