SB: Cowgirls Complete Series Sweep Over HCU Saturday

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball completed its Southland Conference series sweep against Houston Christian with a doubleheader win Saturday by the scores of 6-3 and 5-4 (9 innings) to 33-15 overall and 17-1 in conference play.  HCU falls to 17-24 overall and 4-14 in the SLC.
 
In the first game of the day, HCU took a 1-0 lead when the Huskies second batter of the game, Haylie Savage hit her seventh homerun of the season for the early lead.
 
McNeese responded with two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run homerun by Alexis Dibbley, her fifth of the season to give the Cowgirls the lead. 
 
HCU tied the game with a run in the third but once again Dibbley came through with a RBI single to score Corine Poncho for the 3-2 lead.
 
HCU tied the game again (3-3) in the fourth on a RBI double by Jackie Jessup but once again McNeese responded and took advantage of a pass ball to take the lead (4-3) for good.  Mariana Torres came up with a timely double that scored Bella Perez for the 5-3 then in the sixth, the Cowgirls added an insurance run on another Torres double to score Reese Reyna for the 6-3 lead.
 
Dibbley led McNeese at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three RBI and scored one run.  Torres was 2-for-3 with two RBI.  Dibbley also picked up the win to improve to 4-1 on the year.  In the circle, Dibbley allowed three runs on three hits in 4.0 innings.  Shaelyn Sanders picked up her second save of the season as the second reliever behind Ryann Schexnayder
 
In the series finale that went extra innings, it was a bases loaded walk-off win when Reyna drew a walk to bring Dibbley across the plate for the win.
 
McNeese took and early 4-0 lead with two runs in the first inning and single runs in the second and third.
 
HCU tied the game with four runs on five hits in the third inning and the Cowgirls used two pitchers in the first 2 1/3 innings before Sanders came into the game.
 
Sanders entered the game with runners on second and third with one out but got the Cowgirls out of the jam by getting Tabitha Burnett to ground out to Torres at second base who touched Riley Martin for the second out and tossed to first for the third out.
 
After five scoreless innings, McNeese scored the game winning run in the ninth inning.  Dibbley led off with a single, went to second on a walk by Poncho.  Both runners advanced a base on a sac bunt by Crislyne MorenoBella Perez also drew a walk to load the bases and another walk drawn by Reyna brought Dibbley home for the game winning run.
 
Rylie Bouvier, Dibbley and Poncho all led McNeese with two hits apiece with Bouvier hitting her second triple of the season.
 
Sanders picked up the win, her second win of the series as she allowed three hits in 6 2/3 innings of relief and struck out six without allowing a walk.
