SB: Cowgirls Travel To TAMU-CC For Final SLC Road Series

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese softball, coming off a 5-4 home loss to No. 19 UL-Lafayette Wednesday night, will return to Southland Conference action this weekend when the Cowgirls travel to Corpus Christi, Texas for a three-game series against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, their final regular road series of the season. 

The series will begin with a 12 p.m. doubleheader Friday and will end with a single game at 12 p.m. Saturday.  All three games will stream on ESPN+.

McNeese (33-16, 17-1 SLC) enters the game having won 18 of its last 21 games and 10 of its last 11 games.  Wednesday night's loss snapped the Cowgirls' 10-game winning streak. The Cowgirls are 10-3 in the month of April with all three losses coming against ranked teams.  The Cowgirls opened the month with two losses at then No. 18 Florida State.

The Cowgirls lead the series 42-16 and have dominated the Islanders in the last 13 years, having won the last 32 games.  The last McNeese loss against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was an 8-6 loss at a tournament at Sam Houston in 2011.  

McNeese enters the series with five players batting over .300.  Freshman Alexis Dibbley leads the team with a .361 average while Samantha Mundine (.345), Corine Poncho (.324), Bella Perez (.321), and Rylie Bouvier (.304) are also hitting above .300.

In the circle, senior Shaelyn Sanders continues to lead the staff with a 1.93 ERA, wins 916-8), shutouts (6), innings pitched (156.1), and strikeouts (121).

The Islanders enter the series with a 20-16 overall record and are currently in sixth place in the SLC standings at 8-10.
