Keeton walks off Texas State in home closer

LAKE CHARLES, La. – Chase Keeton's walk-off double lifted McNeese Baseball to a 7-6 extra-inning victory over Texas State in the first meeting between the squads in five years at Joe Miller Ballpark Tuesday night.

Keeton, a redshirt senior, stepped to the plate with runners on second and third, facing a one-run disadvantage with two outs on the board. On the payoff pitch, Keeton sent the ball down the left line, driving in both runners for the team's first walk-off win since facing Southeastern earlier this season.

Both teams battled back-and-forth throughout the night with five lead changes taking place at the ballpark. The Cowboys' best two innings in the outing were the fifth with three runs and two runs in the bottom of the 10th. It was the seventh extra-inning game of the 2024 campaign.

McNeese improved to 28-23 on the season, 10-11 in the Southland while the Bobcats move to 26-27, 12-15 Sun Belt.

Junior Max Swenson picked up his third victory while eight pitchers saw action for the Pokes. Four pitchers hung zeroes on the board, not allowing a run during each of their tenures.

McNeese takes to the road against Nicholls this upcoming Thursday to Saturday to conclude the regular season heading into the Southland Conference Tournament.
