McNeese falls to Nicholls in series opener

THIBODAUX, La. - McNeese Baseball fell to defending conference champion Nicholls in a one-run game 4-3 Thursday night at Ben Meyer Diamond in the series opener.
 
The Cowboys fall to 28-24 on the season and 10-12 in Southland Conference play while the Colonels move to 33-19, 15-7 in the Southland.
 
Nicholls put all four of their runs up in the initial two innings of the game with two in each inning before being held scoreless from the third on. McNeese plated all three of its runs on a three-run home run by senior Elliot Hebert in the fifth inning to reel in the game.
 
Hebert earned his eighth multi-RBI game of the season and third with three on the home run. It marked the fourth homer for Hebert in his final campaign.
 
Both squads return to the diamond Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the second game of the series.
