Cowgirl squad; 6 T&F student-athletes recognized for academics by USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS – McNeese track and field had six student-athletes recognized as All-Academic Athletes by the USTFCCCA, the organization announced this week.
 
Those honored were Hunter Longino, Jalon White, Sakari Famous, Kayla Harrison, Mariah Lee and Morgan Talley.
 
In addition, the Cowgirl squad was recognized as an All-Academic Team for posting a 3.16 team GPA.
 
Talley, Longino, Famous, Harrison and Lee were recently selected to the Southland Conference All-Academic team with Talley being named the SLC's Women's Student-Athlete of the Year.
 
The six student-athletes combined to win a total of nine medals at the 2024 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Talley won three gold (long jump, triple jump, heptathlon) and a bronze (100m hurdles); Lee a gold (hammer), Longino a gold (javelin), White a gold (400m), Famous a silver (high jump), and Harrison a silver (4x400 relay).
 
Criteria to be named an NCAA Division I All-Academic Athlete includes a minimum GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale.
 
McNeese led the SLC with four women student-athletes named to the list while A&M-Commerce placed two while the two Cowboys garnering the honors were the only ones to represent the Southland Conference. McNeese and A&M-Commerce were the only women's teams from the league to be recognized.
