Huge second half lifts Cowgirls to victory over Tigers



LAKE CHARLES, La. – McNeese soccer rode a momentous second half to claim its second victory of the 2024 campaign against Texas Southern 3-0 at Cowgirl Field Friday night.

The Pitch Side:
• Bailee Ramirez earned her first collegiate goal six seconds into the second half off a double assist.
• Grace Denison and Haley Davis each earned their first collegiate assists with the Pokes.
• Also earning her first assist as a Poke was Mandi Boudreaux on the third goal of the match.
• By netting three goals, it was the first time McNeese has accomplished the feat since Sept. 24, 2023.
• Meris Cody made her collegiate debut with a start against the Tigers.
• McNeese outshot the Tigers 16-9 on the pitch.
• Texas Southern earned more corner kicks than the Cowgirls with a 4-2 advantage.
• Kaile Kukaua now leads the team with two goals on the 2024 campaign.
• Marks the second consecutive 3-0 victory over Texas Southern for the Cowgirls.
 
How It Happened:
• McNeese attempted six shots with Texas Southern fighting for three in a scoreless first half.
• Jackie Kelly earned a save in both periods for two on the day
• Bailee Ramirez earned her first collegiate goal six seconds into the second half with assists being credited to Avery Baker and Grace Denison.
• Kaile Kukaua made it a 2-0 match on a penalty kick in the 73rd minute of action.
• Salma Elhaimer earned the final goal of the match in the 79th minute of play off assists by Mandi Boudreaux and Haley Davis.
 
Next up: McNeese is scheduled to take a week of rest before hosting Louisiana Christian on September 13 at 7:00 p.m.
