LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball fell 60-47 to Nicholls Saturday, snapping its two-game winning streak in the first of three straight home games for the Cowgirls.
The loss drops the Cowgirls record to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in the SLC. Nicholls improves to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
McNeese placed three players in double figure scoring with
Paris Guillory leading the way with 12 points.
Mireia Yespes scored 11 points and lead McNeese with eight rebounds.
Kiayra Ellis ended the game with 10 points.
Nicholls held a 17-14 first quarter lead after Jesslyn Jalomo's heaved a three-pointer at the buzzer that found the bottom of the net.
The Cowgirls struggled from the field in the second quarter, making only 2 of 15 attempts while Nicholls shot 50 percent from the field to outscore the Cowgirls 19-7 to lead 36-21 at the half.
The shooting woes continued for the Cowgirls in the second half as they connected on only 6 of 26 from the field but still had a chance to cut the lead to single digits late in the game but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity from the free throw line.
The Colonels also placed three players in double figure scoring with Britiya Curtis leading all players with 13 points. Deonna Brister came off the bench to add 12 and Tanita Swift scored 11 points.
McNeese will remain home to host Stephen F. Austin (Jan. 16) and Lamar (Jan. 18).
