LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball held a slim one-point lead over Stephen F. Austin following the first quarter Thursday night then went away from the game plan, resulting in a 91-49 Southland Conference loss.
McNeese (7-10, 2-4 SLC) led 17-16 at the end of the first period and made more three-pointers than Stephen F. Austin (14-4 (4-3 SLC) who entered the game ranked fourth in the nation with a 38.9 three-point field goal percent was held to one trey in the first quarter. It was the Cowgirls who had the upper hand from behind the arc in the quarter, shooting 60.0 percent on 3 of 5 attempts.
Everything changed in the second quarter when SFA scored the first 10 points of the quarter and ended the half on a 17-0 run to lead 43-20. SFA made up for its poor three-point shooting in the first quarter by making 9 of its 19 attempts in the second quarter.
SFA outscored the Cowgirls 48-29 in the second half.
The Ladyjacks ended the game with 15 three's made, five shy of its season high 20, and placed six players in double figures. Ashlyn Traylor-Walker led all players with 22 points. Key Roseby came off the bench to score 13 points. Trinity Moore and Harmanie Dominquez both ended the game with 11 apiece and Avery Vansickle and Faith Blackstone both had 10 apiece.
Paris Guillory and
Kyla Davis both led McNeese with 11 points apiece. Guillory was 5 of 13 from the field including one three-pointer while Davis came off the bench to make 4 of her 11 attempts with three attempts coming from behind the arc.
McNeese will conclude its three-game homestand by hosting Lamar at 1 p.m. this Saturday.
