SEARCY, Ark.—McNeese women's tennis began its weekend road trip to Arkansas Friday with a commanding 6-1 win over Harding University to improve to 3-1 on the year.
The Cowgirls will play Missouri State at 11 a.m. on the Harding University campus before ending its trip with a 10 a.m. match at Central Arkansas on Sunday.
Doubles wins on courts one and three gave the Cowgirls an early 1-0 lead. McNeese then dominated the singles matches by winning five of the six matches.
Singles victories by
Toffee Ghorab,
Elena Morales, and
Alexa Martinez clinched the match and extending the Cowgirl lead to 4-0. The final McNeese point came from Ariane Monlleo-Sanchis.
Ghorab and Martinez won their matches in straight sets while Morales won her match by retirement. Morales won the first set 6-0 and was leading 4-0 in the second set before her opponent retired.
Sanchis fought her way back from a first set in a tiebreaker 6-7 (5-7) loss to win the next two sets 6-2, 12-10. Sanchis improves to 3-1 on the year with the win.
