LAKE CHARLES – Following a record-tying performance in Saturday's 27-0 win over HCU, McNeese quarterback
Jake Strong has been named this week's Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
This is Strong's second player of the week award of the season (Sept. 15).
Against HCU, Strong tied a McNeese single-game school record for most rushing touchdowns scored by a quarterback when he recorded three TDs. The sophomore tallied a career-high 108 yards rushing on 16 carries for a 6.8 yards per carry average.
His touchdowns scores went for 7, 7, and 34 yards and he completed 14 of 22 passes for 133 yards and an interception as he finished with 241 total offensive yards.
For the season, Strong has completed 108 of 190 passes for 1,271 yards and seven touchdowns and has rushed for 173 yards and five scores.
East Texas A&M's Kyree Anderson was named the league's defensive player of the week while Lamar kicker Ben Woodard earned special teams honors.
McNeese returns to action on Saturday when it visits Nicholls. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
