Cowgirls and Islanders Battle to 1-1 Draw

Lake Charles — McNeese Cowgirl Soccer (4-9-4, 3-3-2) battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders Thursday night at Cowgirl Field.

The Islanders struck first in the 13th minute when Ashley Wilson floated a corner kick into the net to take an early 1-0 lead.

The Cowgirls answered just before halftime as Jaimaris Diaz delivered a pinpoint corner kick that connected with Rhiannon Maynes-Tourond, who netted her sixth goal of the season to even the score at 1-1 going into the break.

It was a gritty battle from start to finish, as both teams fought hard in a physical matchup that saw 17 fouls and three cautions. Despite the intensity, the score remained level at 1-1 when the final whistle blew.
