LAKE CHARLES, La. — McNeese Athletics is excited to announce Cajun Heritage Day, a celebration of Cajun culture, community, and basketball, set for Saturday, January 10, as the Cowgirls and Cowboys host Southeastern in a doubleheader at Townsley Law Arena. The day will feature a festive pregame atmosphere highlighting Cajun music, food, and family-friendly entertainment, beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Les DeVall Drive.
The celebration will begin ahead of the McNeese Women's Basketball game at 1:00 p.m., followed by the Men's Basketball game at 4:00 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and take part in a full afternoon of activities, including a Jambalaya Cook-off, live music from Chris Miller and Bayou Roots, fun jumps, face painting, and more.
A centerpiece of Cajun Heritage Day will be the Jambalaya Cook-off, where fans can enjoy free tastings of a variety of jambalaya dishes from noon until 3:00 p.m. The cook-off will bring together local sponsors and cooking teams to showcase their best Cajun flavors in a tailgate-style environment.
There are limited spots remaining for teams interested in competing in the Jambalaya Cook-off.
Team entry information includes:
• $100 per team (up to eight members per team)
• 8 General Admission tickets to the basketball doubleheader
• One table provided for each cooking team (teams are encouraged to bring additional supplies and tents as needed)
• In-game recognition, with all participating teams receiving an announcment during both games
The top three teams will be announced at halftime of the Men's Basketball game, with winners receiving exciting prizes.
