LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese softball closed out the I-10 Border Classic with a 6-2 win over Tulsa Sunday to end tournament play with a 3-2 record with its losses coming to No. 6 Tennessee on Friday.
With the win, the Cowgirls improve to 7-4 overall and will remain home to host the Cowgirl Classic this weekend Friday, Feb. 21-Sun., Feb. 23.
The Cowgirls struck first when
Alexis Dibbley's single up the middle scored
Kassidy Chance for a 1-0 first inning lead. Tulsa (5-5) evened the score in the second inning with a solo homerun by Celeste Wood.
McNeese regained the lead in the second inning on a RBI single to left by
Samantha Mundine that brought
Delaney Dunham home for the 2-1 lead.
After a scoreless third inning, Tulsa tied the game for a second time with a run in the fourth but from then on it was all McNeese.
Mundine came through again with a two RBI single to break a 2-2 tie that gave the Cowgirls a 4-2 lead.
Jada Muñoz's second homerun of the season in the fifth inning extended the McNeese lead to 5-2 and a RBI ground out by Dibbley in the sixth scored the final Cowgirl run of the game.
Mundine ended the game 3 for 4 with three RBI while Dibbley was 1 for 4 with two RBI.
Freshman
Maddie Taylor tossed her second complete game of the season to improve to 3-1 on the year. Taylor allowed two runs on six hits, walked three and struck out two.
