LAKE CHARLES – Alexis Gravel recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts to lead McNeese baseball to a 1-0 victory over Oakland. The Cowboys rise to 3-1 on the campaign with the Golden Grizzlies falling to 1-4. 
 
Gravel, a senior, had 12 of the team's 14 strikeouts, besting his previous best of 10 set last season against Northwestern State. Senior Sergio Lopez rounded out the final two innings to collect his first save on the season.
 
McNeese took the lead in the third inning on back-to-back doubles by senior Grant Mangrum and redshirt sophomore Easton Dowell to make it 1-0 in the pitchers duel.
 
Mangrum had the lone multiple-hit game for either squad, batting 2-for-3 on the day with one run scored to improve his season average to .429.
 
McNeese and Oakland round out the series Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. with game two set to start about 30 minutes after game one concludes.
