McNeese walks off Oakland; Series resumes Sunday

LAKE CHARLES – Mack Brousseau led McNeese baseball (4-1) to a walk-off victory over Oakland (1-5) in a 5-6 victory at Joe Miller Ballpark Saturday afternoon as the sophomore had two home runs in the outing.
 
Brousseau earned his first home run, a solo shot, in the fourth inning before collecting a single in the sixth inning. While he flew out in the seventh, he led the Pokes to victory with his solo home run to left field with two outs on the board in the bottom of the ninth.
 
Oakland took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning with the Cowboys responding shortly after senior Conner Westenburg came home on an RBI double by Simon Larranaga, a fellow senior.
 
McNeese continued to work into the Golden Grizzlies' lead with Brousseau's first home run out to left field. The ballgame would be tied up at 3-3 in the sixth inning as Larry Edwards Jr., a junior, hit a single up the middle to drive in senior Marcus Heusohn.
 
The Golden Grizzles regained the lead. In the top of the seventh before the Cowboys tied it up at 4-4 as Westenburg came home on another RBI single by Heusohn.
 
The Cowboys will finish out the series Sunday at a time to be determined at Joe Miller Ballpark. The updated time will be posted on the McNeese baseball X, Instagram, and Facebook accounts.
