Stancliff's walk-off hit lifts McNeese over Oakland 4-3

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese baseball had its second consecutive walk-off victory as Matt Stancliff hit an RBI single with the bases loaded for a 4-3 victory over Oakland Sunday night at Joe Miller Ballpark for a 3-0 series sweep.

The Cowboys rise to 5-1 on the season, their best start since 2020 and second time head coach Justin Hill has led the Pokes to a 5-1 start, while the Golden Grizzlies fall to 1-6.

The Golden Grizzles took the lead in the top of the sixth with the first run scored, an advantage that wouldn't last long.

McNeese tied the game in the sixth with a bases-loaded walk as senior Marcus Heusohn earned the RBI when redshirt sophomore Easton Dowell crossed home. Sophomore Mack Brousseau, who had the walk-off home run Saturday night, drove in the go-ahead run with an RBI single to drive Conner Westenburg (senior) across home.

The Cowboys tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh as junior Larry Edwards Jr. crossed home plate on an RBI single up the middle by senior Grant Mangrum. Edwards Jr. had hit a triple to left center in the prior at-bat to get on base. The Golden Grizzlies scored two in the top of the eighth to set up the walk-off in the ninth.

McNeese returns to action Tuesday night hosting UL-Lafayette at Joe Miller Ballpark at 6:00 p.m. set to be streamed on ESPN+.
