McNeese claims Nicholls series in 2-1 duel

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese baseball (8-1, 2-0 SLC) claimed its third series of the season in a 2-1 victory over Nicholls (5-6, 0-2 SLC) to clinch the three-game series at Joe Miller Ballpark ahead of Sunday's finale. The Cowboys are off to their best start in over two decades with the Pokes last starting 8-1 during the 1993 campaign.

Both squads exchanged blows early with the Colonels taking the first run of the game in the first followed by McNeese tying up the game in the second. Junior Larry Edwards Jr. earned an RBI single to drive in graduate student Davis Meche.

McNeese took a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the third as a double steal went errant, allowing senior Conner Westenburg to cross home plate.

Graduate student Blayne Fritcher earned his first victory of the season for the Cowboys as senior Sergio Lopez collected his third save.

The Cowboys and Colonels wrap up the series Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. with all the action being streamed on ESPN+.
