LAKE CHARLES – McNeese track and field claimed the Bob Hayes Challenge Trophy at the annual Cowboy Relays on Saturday, capturing 16 first place finishes in the process.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls combined to tally 353 points to win the Bob Hayes Challenge Trophy, beating out Southern who placed second with 238 points. Prairie View was third at 165 followed by ULM 136, Louisiana-Lafayette 105, Alcorn State 72, Wiley 68, Lamar 35, New Orleans 30, Centenary 10, Philander Smith 19, Jarvis Christian 15 and Southwestern Christian College with nine points.
Marcus Francis was a double-winner on Saturday, capturing first place in both the shot put (58-6) and the discus (161-8).
Koen Beavers won the 100m dash with a personal record time of 10.42 and was on the 4x100 relay first place team that clocked a time of 40.33.
The Cowgirls dominated the distance events –

Jasmine Perez placing first and second in the 1500m while
Grace Sullivan,
Danielle Salinas and
Grace French went 1-2-3 in the 3000-meters.
