McNeese drops 15-8 offensive battle to HCU

HOUSTON, Texas – McNeese baseball fell to HCU in a 15-8 offensive battle at Husky Field Saturday evening, moving to 10-3 (3-2 SLC) on the 2025 campaign with the Huskies rising to 9-3 (5-0 SLC).
 
McNeese struck first offensively as junior Mack Brousseau sent a home run over the right-field wall in the second inning with one out recorded. Graduate student Davis Meche singled in the next at-bat, setting him up to come home on an RBI double by redshirt sophomore Easton Dowell with two outs recorded. The Huskies cut the lead in half in the bottom frame 2-1 on an RBI groundout.
 
Houston Christian took a 5-2 lead after three, plating four runs on five hits within six at-bats. In the bottom of the fourth, the Huskies plated four runs for a 9-2 advantage.
 
The Pokes fought back in the top of the seventh with four runs, cutting into the Huskies' 9-6 lead. Larry Edwards Jr., a junior, was able to score the third run of the game on a fielding error ahead of an RBI groundout by junior Matt Stancliff to bring home junior Connor Schneider. Senior Simon Larranaga sent a home run out of left center to also bring home Conner Westenburg (senior).
 
HCU struck back in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double for a 10-6 four-run advantage before Edwards Jr. hit a two-RBI double to bring home Meche and Brousseau, bringing it back within two. In the bottom half, the Huskies plated five runs on two hits, one of those being a three-run home run.
 
The Cowboys and Huskies conclude the series with a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee at Husky Field.
