NATCHITOCHES – McNeese track and field returns to action on Saturday when it takes part in the Northwestern State Leon Johnson Invitational.
 
Events will begin at 10 a.m. with the women's discus and men's shot put. Running events will start at 1 p.m. with the steeplechase.

According to the latest USTFCCCA rankings, McNeese will enter the meet ranked No. 3 in the Southland Conference in the men's division and eighth in the women's.
 
The Cowboys have 11 selections ranked in the top five in the league in their respective events – Marcus Francis (No. 1 in shot put, No. 2 in discus), Tyler Challis (No. 1 in hammer), Alex Martin (No. 1 in 800m, No. 5 in 1500m), Kalen Beavers (No. 5 in 200m), Jaden Powell (No. 3 in 400m hurdles), Chris Calloura (No. 4 in high jump), Amire Ledet (No. 5 in triple jump), Darren Taylor (No. 5 in javelin), and the 4x100m relay team of Kalen and Koen Beavers, Powell and Amari Godette ranking No. 2.
 
Cowgirls ranked in the top five in the league includes Jeny Barcenas (No. 1 in the 3000m steeplechase), Grace Sullivan (No. 4 in the steeplechase), Ashari Jones (No. 5 in the shot put), and the 4x400m relay team of Gabrielle Andrews, Ivey Washington, Keelei Dorsey and Jashyra Thomas ranking third.
 
Teams entered include McNeese, Northwestern State (host), Alcorn, Grambling, Texas College and UL Monroe.
