NEW ORLEANS – McNeese beach volleyball went 1-2 during the first day of the NOLA Classic, defeating Tarleton State before falling to San Jose State and No. 18 Florida Atlantic. The Sandy Pokes own a 12-15 record on the season and are 2-6 in Southland Conference play.
 
McNeese opened the day with a 3-2 victory over Tarleton State to move to 2-0 against the Texans all-time. Jackie McGee and McKenzie Moore clinched the No. 3 pair to ensure the dual victory, extending their win streak to eight matches.
 
The Cowgirls took the early 3-0 lead with the No. 4 pair (Bethanie Durant/Harlee Tupper) and No. 2 pair (Rylee Lansing/Kendall Osgood) recording 2-0 and 3-0 wins respectively, before the No. 5 and No. 1 pairs fell to close things out.
 
San Jose State took the first three matches in the next dual for an early 3-0 advantage. McGee and Moore won their ninth straight match in the third set, taking the first and final for the victory. The duo was one of three that went into three sets during the dual.
 
McNeese capped of the first day of competition against Florida Atlantic as the Owls took a 5-0 victory. They were the second ranked opponent the Cowgirls have seen this season. The No. 3 pair of McGee and Moore saw their nine-match win streak come to an end, but own a winning percentage of .682 heading into the final two matches of the regular season.
 
The Cowgirls resume action Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. against Tulane before taking on Southeastern at 11 a.m. in day two of the NOLA Classic.
