SB: Cowgirls Complete Sweep Over ETAM...Secure SLC Tournament Bracket Pod

LAKE CHARLES---  McNeese softball secured one of the two Southland Conference Tournament Bracket Play Pods Saturday with its 6-3 series finale win over East Texas A&M to complete the series sweep over the Lions on senior day. Seniors Reese Reyna, Kelsey Gaspard, and Rylie Bouvier were honored following the game.
 
McNeese (34-17, 20-4 SLC) extended its winning streak to 11 games with the win while East Texas A&M fell to 9-38 overall and 5-19 in the SLC.  The Cowgirls will travel to LSU on Tuesday before concluding the SLC regular season at Stephen F. Austin next weekend.  McNeese will host Louisiana Tech in its regular season home finale April 29 before host the four-team bracket play May 1-4.
 
Nyjah Fontenot led the Cowgirls with two hits including a triple and four RBI in the game.  Ryann Schexnayder improved to 5-1 on the season with the win, allowing one run on seven hits, three strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
 
Delaney Dunham and Nyjah Fontenot knocked in the games first two runs in the second inning on sacrifice flies that gave the Cowgirls a 2-0 lead.
 
Two innings later, Nyjah Fontenot's bases clearing triple scored three more runs for a 5-0 lead.  Fontenot came home to score on a Lion error for a 6-0 lead.
 
East Texas A&M avoided the shutout by scoring three runs in the seventh on a RBI single by Stephanie Tapia and a two-run homerun by Aaliyah Wilcox.
 
McNEESE NOTES
• The 2025 Seniors- Reese Reyna, Kelsey Gaspard, and Rylie Bouvier were honored following the game
• With the win, McNeese clinched one of the two SLC Tournament Bracket Play Pods scheduled for May 1-4
• McNeese extended its winning streak to 11 games with the win
• Since dropping its SLC opening series at Lamar, McNeese has won seven straight SLC series
• Of the seven SLC series wins this season, five have been series sweeps
• McNeese outscored East Texas A&M 36-6 and outhit the Lions 33-17 in the series
• Of the Cowgirls' 33 hits, 18 were extra base hits including three homeruns, 10 doubles, and five triples
• McNeese offense produced 33 RBI, 16 walks, struck out three times and ended the series with a .452 batting average
• Six Cowgirls ended the series with over a .400 batting average: Sarah Allen (.800), Jada Muñoz and Nyjah Fontenot (.667), Kassidy Chance (.500), Brylie Fontenot (.444), and Delaney Dunham (.400)
• Muñoz ended the series with nine RBI, two homeruns, two doubles, and three walks
Nyjah Fontenot had seven RBI, two triples, one double, two walks
Kassidy Chance had two doubles, one triple, three RBI, four walks
Sarah Allen had one triple, one double, 4 RBI, three walks
• The pitching staff picked up one shutout in the series, allowed 17 hits, struck out nine and held ETAM to a .270 batting average
Kadence Williams (10-7), Maddie Taylor (15-6), and Ryann Schexnayder (5-1) all pick up one win apiece in the series.
• Williams improved to 7-2 in the SLC with her win in game one on Friday, Taylor improved to 10-1 in the SLC with her game two win on Friday that clinched the series.  Schexnayder improved to 3-0 in the SLC with her win on Saturday to clinch the series.
