SB: Cowgirls Fall 5-2 at No. 10 LSU snapping 11-game win streak

BATON ROUGE--  No. 10 LSU softball snapped McNeese's 11-game winning streak Tuesday night with a 5-2 come from behind win in a game that was halted a few times due to lightning. The loss drops the Cowgirls to 34-18 overall while the Tigers improve to 37-10 on the season.

McNeese picked up six hits in the game with Kassidy Chance leading the way with two hits including her 13th double of the season.  Nyjah Fontenot, Rylie Bouvier, Reese Reyna, and Sarah Allen all picked up one hit apiece with Reyna's being her ninth double of the season.

Starter Maddie Taylor fell to 15-7 overall with the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in 2.0 innings.  Kadence Williams allowed one run on two hits in 1.0 inning and Ryan Schexnayder tossed a two-hit shutout in 3.0 innings of relief.

LSU collected eight hits and was led by Jalia Lassiter and Avery Hodge who had two hits apiece.  Tatum Clopton picked up the win in relief of Vallejo.  Clopton tossed seven shutout innings and allowed four hits to improve to 7-1 on the year.

The game was nearly played out the same as when the two teams played in Lake Charles on April 1 with the Cowgirls taking a 2-0 lead and the Tigers using one inning tonight to score all five runs.  In Lake Charles, the Tigers scored six runs in both the six and seventh to win 12-2.

McNeese took a 2-0 lead in the first inning after the first five Cowgirls reached base, chasing Vallejo from the circle.

Samantha Mundine's walk scored Kassidy Chance, who led the game off with a single for the 1-0 lead.  A single by Bouvier scored Nyjah Fontenot for the 2-0 lead. Fontenot reached on a walk.

LSU used the third inning to score all five of its runs on five hits and took advantage of one Cowgirl error to take the 5-2 lead.  The Tigers tied the game 2-2 on a double off the left field wall by Lassiter that scored Danieca Coffey and Jadyn Laneaux. Lassiter scored the go ahead run on a fly out.  A double by McKenzie Redoutey gave LSU a 4-2 lead and McKenzie Redoutey came home to score on a sacrifice fly by Avery Hodge for the 5-2 lead.

After replacing Vallejo, Clopton allowed the first two batters she faced to reach base then retired the next nine batters before giving up her first hit of the game, a single down the right field line by Sarah Allen.  Clopton would give up three more hits including Reyna's double in the sixth and Chances double in the seventh.

McNeese will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas this weekend to face Stephen F. Austin in its regular season Southland Conference series beginning with a single game Friday.
