LAKE CHARLES – Missed opportunities troubled McNeese in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to Louisiana Christian in midweek action as the Cowboys left 13 runners on base, nine of those in scoring position.
The Cowboys, now 29-8 overall, saw three different innings with the bases loaded but were unable to get the timely hit to have any cross the plate.
Diego Corrales (0-1) took the loss after being the fifth of seven McNeese pitchers to take the mound. He gave up the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth after the Cowboys tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a two-run home run by
Matt Stancliff.
McNeese finished with eight hits in the game while LC (24-23) added nine.
Conner Westenburg recorded three hits in five at bats to lead the way, including a fifth inning lead-off triple.
The Cowboys will return to Southland Conference play on Friday when they open a league series at UTRGV in a matchup against two of the top three teams in the conference standings.
Quoting Coach Justin Hill
"We'll learn from this. I think the thing is, we were just okay. I thought pitching wise, I know we had some strikeouts but I didn't think we were super crisp with it. We've done better on the mound. Offensively, what we do well is keep pressure on them (this season), we just had some pressure-free at bats, we got picked off and did a couple of things that kind of allowed them to breath, and it took away from what we do well."
