SB: Cowgirls Complete Series Sweep Over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball completed its Southland Conference series sweep over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Wednesday with a 9-4 win to improve to 28-17 overall and 14-4 in the SLC.  The loss drops the Islanders to 9-29 overall and 3-15 in the SLC.
 
For the third straight game of the series, McNeese collected at least 10 hits, ending the series outhitting the Islanders 34-21 and outscoring them 30-9.  Of the 10 hits in Wednesday's game, five were extra base hits (4 doubles, 1 homerun).

 
Nine Cowgirls picked up at least one hit apiece in the game.  Jada Muñoz led McNeese with two hits including one double.  Rylie Bouvier, Sarah Allen, and Gwinn Hall also had one double apiece. Kadence Williams (8-7) picked up the win in relief.  Williams allowed one run on four hits with two strikeouts in 3.0 innings.   

 
The Islanders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their first at bat of the game on a double by Mimi Thornton, but the Cowgirls didn't waste much time to score either as they scored four runs in the bottom half to the inning to take a 4-2 lead.
Back-to-back doubles by Jada Muñoz and Rylie Bouvier brought three runs across the plate with the fourth run scoring on a sacrifice bunt by Brylie Fontenot.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Madison Espinoza pulled the Islanders to within one run (4-3) in the third inning on a solo homerun. After two scoreless innings, McNeese scored five runs in the next three innings.
 
The Cowgirls added two runs in the fourth on a Gwinn Hall double to center that scored McElroy who reentered the game following a leadoff double by Sarah AllenDelaney Dunham put the Cowgirls up 6-3 after scoring on an error.
 
McElroy's solo homerun, her third of the season extended the McNeese lead to 7-2 in the fifth inning then two more runs in the six came from a Reese Reyna RBI and another run scored off an Islander error.  The Islanders scored their fourth run in the sixth.  
 
McNeese will travel to Houston, Texas this weekend for a Southland Conference series at Houston Baptist.  The series will begin with a doubleheader 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, April 11.  The series finale is scheduled for Noon on Saturday, April 12.
