NATCHITOCHES - McNeese's cross country squads got an early look at the running trail for the Southland Conference Championships when they competed at the Northwestern State Pre-SLC Meet on Friday evening.
The Cowgirls had two runners finish in the top 10 individual en route to a team second place finish while the Cowboys finished third in the five-team field, four consisting of Southland Conference teams.

Jeny Barcenas led the way with a third place finish after clocking a 14:16.78 in the 4,000-meter race.
Elsa Moore placed sixth overall with a time of 14:35.89. The Cowgirls totaled 47 points to finish in second place behind Stephen F. Austin's 22 points. Lamar (88) placed third. Louisiana Tech (94) and Northwestern State (142) rounded out the team scoring.
McNeese's
Gregory Martin was the lone Cowboy to finish in the top 10 in the 6,000-meter race, timing in at 19:00.39. McNeese totaled 69 points to follow SFA (15) and Lamar (60). Northwestern State (110) and Louisiana Tech (139) capped the team scoring.Â
The teams will be back in action on September 27 when McNeese hosts the McNeese Cowboy Stampede.
