NEW ORLEANS— McNeese volleyball held on for its first Southland Conference win of the season Saturday with a 3-2 (14-25, 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 15-13) win over New Orleans to end SLC opening weekend of play with a 1-1 record.
The win included a season high 71 kills and 68 assists by the Cowgirls this season.
After dropping the first set, McNeese responded by winning the next two sets to take a 2-1 match lead.
UNO didn't go away easy as they evened the match at two sets apiece with the fourth set win, sending the match to a deciding fifth set in which the Cowgirls came away with the win to seal the victory.
McNeese improves to 5-9 overall and 1-1 in the SLC while UNO falls to 6-9 overall and 1-1 in the SLC as well.
Several Cowgirls had an outstanding match including senior
Kayla Wilson who led all players with a season high 20 kills, two shy of tying her career high of 22.
D'Nari Mills tied her season high with 19 kills and
Neal Grace Berry ended the match with a career high 13 kills. Setter
Corynne Hausler dished out a match high 53 assists, a career high for her.
