LAKE CHARLES—Preseason No. 1 Texas Tech scored eight runs on six hits in the first two innings Thursday night to defeat McNeese 13-3 in front of a Cowgirl Diamond record crowd of 1,804 on the first day of the Twisted Vines Bayou Bash.

Texas Tech (1-0) added two more runs in the third inning on a RBI sacrifice fly and a solo homerun by Taylor Pannell.

McNeese (0-1) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Cassidy Chance doubled to center to score Delaney Dunham.
After a scoreless fourth inning, the Red Raiders tacked on three more runs on three hits in the fifth inning.  All three runs came on homeruns.  Mia Williams hit a two-run homer and Alana Johnson hit a solo homerun.

The Cowgirls scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI single by Corine Poncho and a RBI double by Alexis Dibbley but that was all the Cowgirls would score.

NyJaree Canady (1-0) picked up the win for Texas Tech.  Canady allowed one run on three hits in four innings.  Lindsey Davis was the losing pitcher for the Cowgirls.  Davis allowed five runs on three hits in 1/3 innings.

McNeese will face North Texas at 4 p.m. and UL-Monroe at 6 p.m. Saturday.  Day two of the tournament will begin at 11 a.m. with Texas Tech taking on North Texas.  Texas Tech will conclude tournament play with a 1:30 p.m. game against UL-Monroe.
