LAKE CHARLES-- McNeese softball went 2-0 on day two of the Twisted Vines Bayou Bash Friday with wins over North Texas and UL-Monroe.
The Cowgirls (2-1) began Friday's action with a 5-2 win over North Texas and closed out the day with a 6-2 win over UL-Monroe.
McNeese combined for 21 hits on the day including nine against North Texas and 12 against UL-Monroe.
The Cowgirls took early leads in both games by scoring most of its runs in the first and third innings.
Against the Mean Green, McNeese scored four runs in the first and one in the third to account for all its runs in the game.
In the nightcap, the Cowgirls jumped out to a 5-0 lead against the Warhawks and added another run in the third.
Six Cowgirls (
Rylee Cloud,
Nyjah Fontenot,
Maddie Taylor,
Jada Muñoz,
Corine Poncho, and
Kassidy Chance) all picked up three hits apiece on the day.
Taylor hit her first career homerun in the third inning against ULM. Muñoz hit her first homerun of the season against North Texas.
In the circle, it was two newcomers who picked up their first wins of the season. Sophomore
Kynlei Chapman earned her first win as a Cowgirl against North Texas. She allowed four hits, struck out two without allowing a walk in 4 1/3 scoreless innings.
Freshman
Brookelyn Taylor picked up her first collegiate win against ULM. Taylor tossed five scoreless innings, allowed three hits and struck out six.
McNeese will close out tournament action on Saturday with two more games. The Cowgirls will face Tulsa at 1 p.m. and ULM at 6 p.m.
