LAFAYETTE – Following a solid outdoor opener at the McNeese Cowboy Relays last weekend, the McNeese track and field teams will compete at the two-day Louisiana Classics hosted by ULL.
Several McNeese athletes ranked in the top three in the Southland Conference in their respective events will be in action.
On the men's side, sprinter Simon Larsen is ranked No. 1 in the 100-meter dash with a 10.83 time.
Daniel Miller is first in the 110 high hurdles at 15.17, Javonte Taylor and
Michael Berry are tied atop the rankings in the high jump (6-2.75) while Berry is first in the long jump (23-1.25),
Amire Ledet and
Quinten Goodie are 1-2 in the triple jump with Ledet at 49-6.25 and Goodie 45-6.5. The McNeese javelin trio of
Tanny Beard (205-7),
Michael Brame II (191-0) and
Gavin Windham (178-4) are ranked 1-3 while thrower Reginald Burks is ranked second in the hammer at 156-5.
For the Cowgirls, 18 athletes are ranked in the top three in the league in their respective events, including six No. 1 event rankings.
Thrower
Jaslyn Russell tops the list in three events – shot put (46-0.5), discus (150-7), and the hammer (176-7).
Leah Guy is second in the shot put (41-2.25) and third in the hammer (143-8). Also in the throws,
Ta'Khara Johnson is second in the hammer (155-5) while
Isabella Punchard is second in the discus (138-6).
The Cowgirls are ranked 1-3 in the javelin throw with
Brianna Underwood (143-3) taking the top spot followed by
Sydnie Cooley (131-6) and
Faith Cauthron (129-8).
Cameron Weber is first in the pole vault (10-10) while
Rheagan Butler is ranked third in the long jump at 17-4.
In the running events, the Cowgirl's 4x400 relay team has the fastest time in the league with a mark of 3:49.28. Individually,
Nyla Hicks is second in the 400m hurdles (1:07.14) and third in the 100-meters (12.40). Gabriele Andrews is second in the 100m at 12.34. In the 1500m,
Elsa Moore is second at 4:49.06 and
Danielle Salinas is third at 4:49.47.
