LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's tennis moved into first place in the Southland Conference at 4-0 with its 5-2 win over Stephen F. Austin Monday morning.  The win is the ninth straight for the Cowgirls as they improve to 14-1 overall and remain undefeated at home with a 4-0 record.
SFA falls to 5-7 overall and 4-2 in the SLC.

"I'm very proud of our total team effort today," said head coach Sonia Carlson.  "We outcompeted SFA from the very first point and brought great fire and intensity throughout the match. Getting both doubles points this weekend was huge for us and really set the tone early. Ana Hollweg had a stellar weekend going 4–0 and continues to lead by example, and Elena stepped up in big moments, clinching both matches for us.

"These battles against high-level opponents are exactly what we need, and they're going to give us a lot of confidence heading into next weekend. We just faced two of the toughest teams on our schedule, and this group showed that we're ready to keep fighting and competing at a high level every time we step on the court." 

McNeese picked up where they left off after Saturday's win over Northwestern State by winning the doubles point with wins on courts two and three for a 1-0 lead.

Holloweg, who was part of the No. 3 doubles picked up her second win of the day by defeating Antonella Taco 6-0, 7-6 (7-2) to put the Cowgirls up 2-0.
Erica Hagi gave McNeese a 3-0 lead with her 6-3, 6-3 win on court five and Elena Morales clinched the match by defeating Avery Kinsey in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

McNeese picked up one more singles win, that coming on court two where Alexa Martinez defeated Felicia Back 7-6 (8-6), 1-6, 10-7.

The Cowgirls will be on the road for its next three matches including conference matches at Nicholls on Saturday and UNO next Monday.  The Cowgirls will also play a non-conference match at Dillard on Sunday.
