LAKE CHARLES – McNeese baseball dropped its midweek match up to Southern, falling 6-2 Tuesday night as the Jaguars outhit the Cowboys 13-5.

With the loss, the Cowboys move to 12-12 overall (6-6 Southland Conference), while Southern improves to 8-15 overall (3-3 SWAC).

Southern struck early, plating two runs in the top of the first inning. Stewart delivered an RBI single to left field, and Radcliffe later reached on an error that allowed another run to score, giving the Jaguars a 2-0 lead.

McNeese answered in the second inning when DJ Pinkerton lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Marcus Heusohn, trimming the deficit to 2-1.

The Jaguars responded in the third inning, adding two more runs to extend their lead to 4-1. White Jr. scored on a ground out, and Lucky came home on an RBI single to left-center field by Ayala.

Pinkerton came through again in the fourth inning with an RBI single to right-center field, scoring Hayden Stringfellow to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Southern added insurance runs in the fifth and eighth innings, using an RBI single and an RBI double down the right field line to secure the 6-2 victory.

Southern starter Dismute earned the win to improve to 2-0 on the season, tossing four innings while allowing one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

McNeese starter Paul Coppinger took the loss, falling to 1-2 after pitching three innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out two.

The Cowboys return to action Wednesday night when they host Louisiana Christian, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
