HOUSTON – McNeese track and field returns to action this weekend when it takes part in the Rice Victor Lopez Classic.
Several events took place on Friday with a majority being held on Saturday.
McNeese has a couple of athletes ranked No. 1 in the Southland Conference in their respective events heading into the weekend.
Cowgirl thrower
Jaslyn Russell, the reigning SLC Women's Field Athlete of the Week, tops the list in the shot put (48-11.75) and is ranked second in the hammer throw (176-7). Cowboy jumper
Amire Ledet is No. 1 in the men's triple jump (49-6.25) while
Quinten Goodie is third (45-6.5).
In the javelin event,
Tanny Beard is second in the men's javelin (205-7) while
Brianna Underwood (143-3),
Sydnie Cooley (131-6), and
Faith Cauthron (129-8) are ranked 3-5 in the women's javelin.
The men's pole vault has
Lawson Fritsch ranked No. 2 (15-7) and
Lucas Owens fifth (14-1.25). The women's pole vault sees Cameron Weber ranked No. 4 at 10-10.
In the running events, the men's 1500m,
Ryan McCarthy (4:00.00) is ranked third followed by James Boutte (4:01.71) and
Sullivan Hanna (4:02.52).
On the women's side,
Nyla Hicks is ranked fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:07.14),
Keelei Dorsey is fifth in the 400m (56.72), and
Fancy Jelagat is fifth in the 800m (2:13.42).
