McNeese runners clock some of school's fastest times at Rice

HOUSTON – Uxue Castro-Martin clocked her fastest-ever 1500-meters at the Rice Victor Lopez Classic on Saturday and came within a second of breaking a 28-year-old school record with her second place finish at 4:30.43.
 
Castro-Martin's time is the second-fastest in school history and is the fastest in the Southland Conference this season by nearly eight seconds. Although she finished second in the race, Castro-Martin was the first college attached runner to finish. Teammate Jeny Barcenas finished fourth with a time of 4:32.41 to set a personal record while clocking the fifth-fastest time in school history.
 
Gregory Martin won the men's 1500m in his first time to run the event in his young college career. The freshman ran the fifth-fastest 1500 in school history with his time of 3:46.61.
 
Ryan McCarthy won the 5000-meters with a time of 14:47.60 and setting a new personal record. It's the fastest time in the Southland Conference this season.
 
Lawson Fritsch continues to impress in the men's pole vault when he finished second after clearing 16-0.75 and Javonte Taylor placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 44-9.
 
Jaslyn Russell had another big showing in the throws. The reigning league field athlete of the week placed second in the shot put with a PR mark of 49-1.5 and finished third in the hammer throw at 173-0.
