SB: Dibbley's Homerun Lifts Cowgirls Over Cardinals

LAKE CHARLES--  Alexis Dibbley's two run homerun in Friday's nightcap of the SLC opening doubleheader against Lamar gave McNeese a 6-4 come from behind win to claim the doubleheader and the Southland Conference opening series win over the Cardinals.  McNeese opened the series with an 8-2 win. The series will conclude with a single game Saturday.  First pitch has been moved up to 12 p.m.

McNeese improved to 17-7 overall and 2-0 in league play while Lamar falls to 11-12 overall and 0-2 in the SLC.

In both games, Lamar took the early lead, a 2-0 lead in the first inning in game one and a 3-0 lead after three innings in game two.
McNeese scored three runs in the bottom of the inning in game one to take the lead on singles by Rylee Cloud and Jada Muñoz to tie the game.  A Kassidy Chance sacrifice fly scored Cloud for a 3-0 lead and the Cowgirls never looked back as they scored two runs in the second on back-to-back homeruns by Alexis Dibbley and Nyjah Fontenot to extend the lead to 5-2.  Two more runs in the third put the Cowgirls up 7-2.  Poncho's sacrifice fly scored Nyjah Fontenot in the sixth for the final run of the game.

The Cowgirls collected 11 hits in the game and was led by three from Fontenot including a triple away from hitting for the cycle.
Brookelyn Taylor improved to 6-2 with the win after giving up two runs on two hits in 5.0 innings.

In the nightcap, Lamar took advantage of three early errors in the game to take a 3-0 lead after two innings.

McNeese scored a run in the fourth on a Kassidy Chance doubled to score Muñoz that cut the Lamar lead to 3-1.  The Cardinals got the run back in the fifth for a 4-1 lead.  The Cowgirls bats came alive in the sixth when McNeese scored five runs on three hits and one Cardinal error to take a 6-4 lead.

Muñoz started things off with the bases loaded and she scored on an error by the catcher who's foot was off the plate allowing Muñoz to score to cut the Lamar lead in half (4-2).

Pinch hitter Gwinn Hall singled to center that scored Chance and Adrianna Mireles to tie the game at four apiece. Meiko Dominguez re-entered the game and came home on a two-run homerun by Dibbley to put the Cowgirls up 6-4. It was Dibbley's second homerun of the day and third on the season.

Ryann Schexnayder picked up her first win of the season (1-0) in relief.  Schexnayder tossed three shutout innings and struck out two in nine batters faced.

Chance led McNeese at the plate with two of the five Cowgirl hits.
