Schuck’s Four-Hit Day Powers McNeese Past UIW, 8-3

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese baseball picked up an 8-3 win over Incarnate Word on Saturday, powered by a four-hit performance from Kaden Schuck.

With the win, the Cowboys improve to 18-17 overall (8-9 Southland Conference), while Incarnate Word falls to 17-18 overall (8-12 SLC). The rubber match is set for 1 p.m. Sunday and will stream live on ESPN+.

The game remained scoreless through the first two innings before McNeese broke through in the third, plating three runs. Danny Barbero got things started with an RBI to score Schuck, followed by an RBI from DJ Pinkerton that brought home Simon Larranaga. Hayden Stringfellow capped the inning with an RBI double to left field, scoring Matt Stancliff for a 3-0 lead.

UIW got on the board in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Cris Enriquez, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

The Cardinals added another run in the fifth on a solo home run by Preston Newberry to trim the lead to 3-2.

McNeese answered in a big way in the bottom of the fifth, erupting for five runs on six hits. Marcus Heusohn delivered a two-RBI double to right field, and Easton Dowell followed with a bunt that brought home Stringfellow. Connor Schneider added another run on a bunt, scoring Heusohn, before Schuck capped the inning with an RBI single to extend the lead to 8-2.

Incarnate Word plated its final run in the eighth inning when Cole Tabor scored from third.

Jaden Bahl earned his first Division I win, tossing 2.2 innings while allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts.

UIW starter Gus McKay took the loss after allowing seven runs on eight hits over 4.2 innings while striking out four.
