SB: Cowgirls Complete Sweep Over Texas A&M-CC

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas— McNeese softball completed its Southland Conference series sweep over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Saturday with a doubleheader win.  The Cowgirls won the first game 8-5 and completed the sweep 3-1 in the second game on Saturday.

McNeese improves to 26-17 overall and 10-8 in the Southland Conference.  The Islanders fall to 10-32 overall and 4-14 in the SLC.

The Cowgirls picked up a total of 22 hits on the day including four extra base hits.  Kassidy Chance went 7 for 8 at the plate and scored three runs on the day.  Maddie Taylor went 4 for 8 including her ninth homerun of the season in the first game.  Alexis Dibbley picked up three hits on the day, and Meiko Dominguez led McNeese with 4 RBI on the day, all four coming in the first game.

McNeese will return home next Tuesday to begin a seven game homestand.  The Cowgirls will play two SLC series next week beginning with Houston Christian on Tuesday and Wednesday followed by Stephen F. Austin on Friday and Saturday.  Tuesday's single game will begin at 6 p.m. and Wednesday's doubleheader will begin at 2 p.m.  
 
Game 1
Cowgirls took the early lead for the second game in a row on a two-run homerun by Maddie Taylor in the first inning, her team leading ninth of the season.  The Cowgirls added four more runs in the third for a 6-0 lead.  Meiko Domiguez's two RBI single put the Cowgirls up 4-0.  Taylor would score on a wild pitch and Dominguez scored on a sacrifice fly by Alexis Dibbley for the 6-0 lead.

The Islander scored three runs in the bottom of the third on a RBI single by Mimi Thornton, a wild pitch that scored Jada Zepeda, and a ground out RBI by Eva Gallegos.

McNeese extended its lead to 8-4 in the fourth inning on a two RBI single up the middle by Dominquez.

The Islanders added single run in the fifth on a Kayla Santiago RBI single and a double steal that scored CJ Castilla in the sixth.

Kadence Williams improved to 3-1 on the year after allowing two runs on six hits with one strikeout.  Ryann Schexnayder picked up her first career save after tossing 1 2/3 no hit innings with one strikeout.
 
Game 2
The Islanders took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the series finale on a single up the middle by Mimi Thornton.  

McNeese took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning from a Malayna Daigle and Kassidy Chance singles up the middle.

Jada Muñoz tripled to deep right field in the seventh inning to score Alexis Dibbley from first to put the Cowgirls up 3-1.
 
Brookelyn Taylor struck out the first two batters she faced in the bottom of the seventh then gave up a single before getting Zoey Stewart to ground out to Kassidy Chance at short who tossed the ball to Adriana Mireles to end the game.

Taylor improved to 9-6 on the season with the win.  Taylor allowed one run on seven hits and struck out six.
