LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's tennis historic season continued Monday when the Cowgirls became the winningest team in program history with its 5-2 Southland Conference win over UTRGV, for a school record 21 wins. The Cowgirls end the regular season 21-1 overall and undefeated at 9-0 in the Southland Conference.
The Cowgirls also became the first McNeese women's team to go undefeated in the SLC in program history and the nine SLC wins are the third most conference wins in program history.
With the win, McNeese extended its overall winning streak to 16 matches, tying for the longest in program history. The nine match SLC winning streak is the longest in program history.
McNeese opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. The Cowgirls didn't stop there as they won the first four singles matches to seal the win.
Erica Hagi put the put the Cowgirls up 2-0 with a straight set win on court 5, then
Elena Morales followed with a straight set win on court 6 for a 3-0 Cowgirl lead.
Ana Hollweg's straight set win on court 4 clinched the overall match.
Alexa Martinez picked up the fifth Cowgirl point with her straight set win on court 2.
McNeese will await its opponent in the Southland Conference Championship that will take place April 19-21 in Beaumont, Texas. One thing for sure is the Cowgirls will be the No. 1 seed and will face the No. 8 seed at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
