LAKE CHARLES— McNeese softball completed its Southland Conference series sweep over Stephen F. Austin with two come from behind wins on Saturday by the scores of 11-10 and 13-8 to improve to 31-18 overall and 15-9 in the SLC, putting the Cowgirls in a four way tie for second place heading into the final regular season SLC series at East Texas A&M next weekend.
Stephen F. Austin falls to 26-24 overall and 10-14 in the SLC with Saturday's losses.
McNeese outhit SFA 21-19 with 10 of the Cowgirls hits being extra base hits. The Cowgirls also collected 20 RBI off their 21 hits.
Alexis Dibbley led McNeese on the day with a 5 for 7 plate appearance that included two doubles, one triple and four runs scored. Dibbley missed hitting for the cycle in the second game by a homerun.
Corrine Poncho made up for Dibbley not hitting a homerun today by hitting two homeruns-one in each game to give her eight on the season. Her two-run homer in the sixth inning in the first game proved to be the game winner as it gave McNeese the 11-10 lead.
Kassidy Chance,
Jada Muñoz, and
Rylee Cloud all picked up three hits on the day. Chance, Muñoz, and
Maddie Weeks all led the Cowgirls with four RBI apiece.
Maddie Taylor improved to 12-4 on the year by picking up both wins in relief. Taylor picked up the first game win after 1 1/3 innings with one hit and one strikeout. She picked up her second win of the day by allowing four hits and four runs, five strikeouts and two walks in 4 2/3 innings.
McNeese will remain home to host UL-Lafayette on Tuesday, April 21 at 6 p.m. in its regular season home finale.
