SB: Cowgirls Drop Series Opening Doubleheader To Southeastern

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball dropped its Southland Conference series opening doubleheader 4-0, 10-5 to Southeastern Thursday, falling to 23-15 overall and 7-7 in the SLC.  The series will conclude with a 1 p.m. game Friday.

Southeastern improved to 32-9 overall and remained undefeated in the SLC at 14-0.  The wins extend the Lions winning streak to 18.  The shutout in the opening game is the 15th on the season for the Lions.

The Lions outhit the Cowgirls 19-8 and outscored the Cowgirls 14-5 on the day.  McNeese didn't its cause by committing four errors in the first three innings in the first game that allowed the Lions to take a 2-0 lead.  Southeastern added single runs in the fourth and the sixth for the first game win.  Both teams left five baserunners stranded in the first game.

In the nightcap, SLU scored in their first at bat, but the Cowgirls responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead off Maddie Taylor's three-run homerun.  The homerun is Taylor's team high eighth of the season.

Southeastern scored three runs in the third to take a 4-3 lead before the Cowgirls tied the game at four apiece when Nyjah Fontenot scored while the Lexi Dibbley was in a run down between first and second.

Southeastern went on to score runs in the next four innings while the Cowgirls were only able to push one run across in the final four innings, one run that came in the fifth on a Lion error.

Kynlei Chapman (5-5) suffered the loss in the opening game and Brooklyn Taylor (8-6) took the loss in the nightcap.
