LAKE CHARLES- McNeese softball struggled to get the timely hits Friday in its 4-0 Southland Conference loss to Southeastern in the series finale. The conference series loss is only the eighth since 2021 and the sweep is only the fourth since 2021. Two of the four have been against Southeastern who also swept McNeese in 2023.
With the loss, McNeese falls to 23-16 overall and 7-8 in the SLC while Southeastern improves to 33-9 overall and remains undefeated at 14-0 in the SLC.
Southeastern outhit the Cowgirls 7-5 with
Maddie Weeks leading McNeese at the plate with a 2 for 3 plate performance. The Cowgirls got doubles from
Alexis Dibbley and
Rylee Eyster.
Maddie Taylor fell to 7-4 on the season with the loss. Taylor tossed five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits along with two strikeouts.
Southeastern's Chloe Magee and Cydnee Schneider led the Lions offense with two hits apiece. Four of their seven hits were extra base hits including an inside the park homerun by Ka'Lyn Watson in the fourth inning.
Hallie Burns improved to 12-3 overall with the win in relief. Burns allowed one hits and one walk in 3 2/3 shutout innings.
McNeese will travel to nationally ranked Texas A&M on Wednesday, April 8 in a game that was recently added to the schedule. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on SECN+.

T4- Southeastern added a run when leadoff hitter Ka'Lyn Watson led off the inning with an inside the park homerun (SLU 3, McN 0)
T5- The Lions Shenita Tucker led the inning off with a double and later scored on a RBI single up the middle by Chloe Magee (SLU 4, McN 0)
