Jeny Barcenas breaks two school records at Bryan Clay Invite

LAKE CHARLES – Jeny Barcenas came up big at the Bryan Clay Invitational for the McNeese track and field program over the weekend as the senior runner broke two school records in the women's 1500m and the 3000m steeplechase.
 
Barcenas clocked a 4:28.50 in the 1500m to break a 28-year-old record of 4:29.34 that was set by Sarah Salmon in the 1998 season. She broke her own school record in the steeplechase with a time of 10:26.37, bettering the previous record by 12 seconds.
 
She's currently ranked No. 1 the Southland Conference and 41st in the NCAA East Region in the steeplechase.
 
Between the two meets at the Bryan Clay and the Houston Tom Tellez Invitational, McNeese had a total of 10 personal records broken on the men's and women's side.
 
Uxue Castro-Martin wasn't far behind Barcenas in the 1500m, clocking a PR time of 4:29.02 which moved past Salmon for No. 2 all-time in school history.
 
At Houston, Fancy Jelagat took first place in the 800-meters with a PR time of 2:12.44 which moved her into the No. 4 slot on the all-time best list.
 
McNeese will return to action on Saturday when it competes in the LSU Alumni Invitational.
